Added 1,038 new words today in novel-in-progress T'aint. I was hoping to be finished with the rewrite of Chapter 2 by the end of today, but I'm still only halfway through scene 2 of a three-scene chapter. That scene needs substantial reworking because I've changed a few key events that happen in it. I might do some more work on it tonight, but this might be sufficient unto the day. I have my character stuck heading down a road, plotwise, that I don't want her to take yet. Not sure how to get her out of it. Gonna sleep on it and see what inspiration might result.
Some writers write with music playing in the background. To me, that's like trying to change a car tyre on a busy highway while counting down backwards from one thousand by threes, with someone standing over me banging very loudly on a frying pan while someone else is giving me a geography quiz. But I just realised today that there's at least one song that resonates with T'aint. Actually, it's the video even more than the song. It's Kate Bush's Cloudbusting, video starring her and the wonderful Donald Sutherland. Today I stumbled upon an interview in which she describes where the inspiration for the song and the video came from. So now I'm going to have to look for the book she mentioned. I have only the vaguest idea why the song/video seems so meaningful to me in relation to my novel. They are nothing alike. It's more as though the video is a mental backdrop for me as I write.
